Press Release Body: Recently (on 16th February) Delhi based Build India Group (BIG)
kicked off its campaign for a national pledge festival here at Constitution Club
last evening with around 200 legal luminaries, journalists and academicians taking
the pledge in unison.
On this occasion, eminent lawyer and former President of Supreme Court Bar
Association, Mr M N Krishnamani released a book authored by Mr Biraja Mahapatra, the
founder of Build India Group.
The book titled \"My Call\" comprises 10 chapters making an emotive appeal to all
Indian leaders in their respective fields to decide about the contour of a national
pledge that should be taken by people of all faiths in unison making it a unique
national festival. While various organizations and political parties in the country
have their own pledges, there is no national pledge in India as existing in several
countries of the world.
The book attributes the lack of Indian-ness amongst the Indians to historical
reasons in the chapter \"Is India still divided?\". The reason why emotional
integration has taken back seat even after sixty years of independence has been
dealt with in \"Bridging the divide between India and Bharat\".
\"While India is strengthening itself as a vibrant democracy, we have been taught to
hate politics and this mindset prevents good and honest professionals from entering
into politics. Hating politics is a crime against democracy\", says the author.
While describing the present scenario of corruption and terrorism in India, the
author wonders why not our god-fearing nature be used as an asset to create a sense
of hatred against corruption and terrorism. We cannot stop terrorism and corruption
by deterrents provided by law. But we certainly can create a wave of hatred against
corruption and terrorism as bestial qualities.
Build India Group has prepared a template of the pledge after taking inputs from
over two thousand people across the country.
A national pledge, it is suggested, would serve as a unique instrument in
inculcating a sense of being an Indian in the minds of our people. If such a
festival happens even once, this could be the biggest historical moment after
independence and the biggest war against terrorism and corruption so far.
